Laurie Jean Rhodes, a New York City based art and event photographer divides her time between constructing images and
documentary projects. She has a unique way of seeing and capturing extraordinary images from everyday life. Exploring
liberation issues and cultural myths surrounding gender and feminism, her pieces feature mermaids, monsters and ballerinas
with wry humor.
Currently Laurie is part of a PWP Exhibition "Objects of Affection" featuring works from "Portrait of a Farm" and "Peace
Through Play". Earlier this year in "Picturing an Ethical Economy" at Trinity Church Museum Laurie had two photographs
featuring school students in Hawaii learning organic farming methods.
In her last project "Portrait of a Farm", Laurie worked with seven farms that practice sustainable agriculture in
Washington Country, NY. These images transport you to an altered state of perception, experiencing the miraculous
nature of the farm, which is revealed through sensuality of light, form, and awe-inspiring farm creatures. They
are currently on display at the Green Table restaurant in Chelsea Market, New York City.

"Peace Through Play", Laurie's first documentary event is a black and white series of nursery school children learning
about peace through yoga, meditation and play in Rockland County, NY. These intimate portraits reveal the intensity
and grace inherent in youth and diversity.
In 2000, Laurie left a substantial career as a Vice President of Programming and Production at Paramount Television to
work as an independent photographer. She trained at the International Center of Photography in Manhattan. In 2006,
she was a winner in the B&W International Spider Awards and her work has been exhibited throughout the metropolitan
area. She has been published in THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE NEW YORK POST, NEW YORK MAGAZINE, PHOTO DISTRICT NEWS,
ADOPTIVE FAMILIES, BABY TALK, GOURMET, GLAMOUR, EDIBLE QUEENS and others.
